Winterberg has a moderate maritime climate with pleasant winters and relatively cool summers. Due to the presence of the mountains, the influence of the sea is somewhat less here than in other parts of Germany. Because Winterberg is located in a valley, rainfall here is particularly difficult to predict. Most of the precipitation here falls as snow in the winter months. . During a good winter sports season, there can be a snow cover of more than one meter around Winterberg. In general, the first serious snow begins to fall in the second half of December. Also due to the 'microclimate' it snows more here than in the rest of the Sauerland.
